Mimi's Story

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over a decade of experience supporting children, youth, families, and individuals in both K–12 school settings and community-based organizations. I offer counselling services in both English and Mandarin.
I was born and raised in Taiwan, spent part of my childhood in Europe due to my father’s work relocation, and later immigrated to Canada with my family. I now call White Rock home. My lived experience across cultures—and as a parent to three daughters—has deepened my understanding of the complexities that come with adjusting to new environments and navigating life’s many transitions. I have a particular interest in supporting newcomer families and individuals during times of change and growth.
Whether you are seeking support for anxiety, depression, parenting, relationship challenges, stress, or simply want to explore new ways of showing up in your life, I would be honoured to walk alongside you on your journey.

Approach

My counselling approach is grounded in Bowen Family Systems Theory, which means I work with clients to better understand themselves within the context of their relationships—both past and present and to gain increasing awareness of relational patterns across generations. I aim to support clients in developing a more objective understanding of the challenges they face, and in doing so, cultivate greater thoughtfulness in how they relate to themselves and others.
I believe that viewing challenges through a systems lens can help us develop more thoughtful responses to the stressors in our lives and create space for more intentional living and connection. I strive to offer a calm, respectful, and non-judgemental presence, and view each therapeutic relationship as an opportunity to listen deeply and collaborate meaningfully.
In addition to family systems work, I integrate tools and strategies from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Play Therapy, Positive Discipline parenting, and SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) Treatment. My practice is trauma-informed and culturally sensitive, grounded in professional integrity and a commitment to continuous learning.

Education

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from National Taiwan Normal University. I am committed to lifelong learning and continually pursue professional development and training in areas such as Family Systems Theory and Play Therapy to better support the individuals and families I work with.

Away from Work

Outside of work, I enjoy reading a good book, going for walks with my dog, grabbing bubble tea with my girls, spending time in nature, and playing board games with family and friends. I also love serving alongside my husband in our faith community and winding down with a good jigsaw puzzle.
